Penn Station Access is a public works project underway by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority in New York City. The goal of the project is to allow Metro-North Railroad commuter trains to access Penn Station on Manhattan's West Side, using existing trackage owned by Amtrak. This is a design-build contract with Halmar International LLC / RailWorks, J.V. as the prime contractor and Jacobs as the Designer. The scope of work includes an extension of Metro-North Railroad‘s New Haven Line to reach Penn Station, addition of eight (8) miles of new tracks, rehabilitation of eleven (11) miles of existing tracks, construction of four new accessible stations, improvise existing tracks and bridges, modernize signal, power, and communication infrastructure.

MAKS is working as a sub-consultant to JACOBS on the Electrical, Traction Power, Civil and Structural engineering design and deliverables. MAKS is responsible for the electrical and structural design for the Traction power department at three (3) proposed electrical substations and five (5) Interlockings. Further, MAKS is engaged in creating detailed 3D models of traction power components through the utilization of BIM OpenBuildings Designer & OpenRoads Designer.
