Existing building is proposed to be demolished and rebuild a new 7-story mix use building. This building is located at the intersection of Broadway and Marcy Ave, and is located close to a subway station owned by New York City Transit Authority. I worked as structural engineer to develop the demolition plan for the existing building and to supply the structural drawings and specifications for the proposed building. The scope of work of demolition included: provide full demolition method for existing building; provide the installation details for fence, sidewalk shed and scaffolding; Develop Safety Plan, provide site clean and debris removal plan; submit traffic control plan; I prepared whole demolition package drawings and specifications for New York City Department of Buildings (NYCDOB), NY City Transit Authority and NY City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT). The proposed 7-story building was designed as steel space frame with concrete shear walls. Dead load, live load, wind load and seismic load were considered as per NY City Building Code 2014 and as per the Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures, ASCE 7-11. The nonlinear structural analysis was performed using SAP 2000 and the foundation was analyzed using Mathcad and SAFE 2010. The scope of work of structural design also included coordinating with architect to determine the location of columns, beams and clear height; providing detail size of each structural element; design foundation based on soil property; provide general details of connections.
