MAKS Engineers worked on the Total Design Services for the rehabilitation of the Kane Street Bridge over I-278 (BQE) in Brooklyn. The bridge is a two-span multi-steel girder bridge. It was built in 1952 and no major rehabilitation took place since then.
The Primary Members of the superstructure consisted of eight built-up stringers. Bridge has low under clearance because of which its steel girders have collision damages from moving trucks.
The purpose of the project was to increase the under-clearance of the bridge and make the structure safe and stable for traffic.
MAKS prepared the project design schedule for rehabilitation of Kane Street Bridge. We performed in-depth inspection to identify any defects in the superstructure and substructure of the bridge. In addition to that, MAKS also performed load rating analysis of the superstructure as per AASHTO LRFD Manual for Bridge Evaluation. We also prepared deck coring plan for bridge deck evaluation. We also worked on design criteria, alternatives and cost estimate to prepare the Design Approval Document (DAD).
